Letter from the MC Principal

Hello MC families,

Each month during the school year we focus on a different IB Learner Profile Attribute (LPA). With the fall being a season of gratitude we focus on the LPA of Caring during the month of November. I’d like to express gratitude for the growth of our students, our talented teaching staff, and our partnership with our parents.

In addition to talking about the Caring LPA during Morning Meeting, the Brain Smart Start that we begin the meeting with each week always ends with a commitment. Our commitment for this week is “to be Caring by finding ways of being of service to [our] community.” Check in with your student about the ways that they are upholding this commitment this week.

Outside of the classroom, this past Friday I attended the opening night of The Marvelous Misadventures of Baba Yaga. The cast and crew put on a tremendous show. It was funny, entertaining, and well-produced. Shout out to Mr. Dewey for his work with the drama club.

On Saturday our volleyball team won the Metro Atlanta Charter Athletic League (MACAL) championship! Congratulations to our coaches Ms. Hinton and Ms. Ghaly. Three years ago (when the 8th graders were in 6th grade) Mrs. Hinton started this program. It took some work getting it off the ground, but the team grew tremendously throughout the first year. In year two of the program we made it to the championship game and finished as the runner ups, and in year three we are the champions. Thank you to all the parents and students that have stuck with the program since the beginning!

Finally, there are two events coming up in December that we wanted you to be aware of. We have tentatively set the date for our fall/winter dance on Friday, December 8th at the Middle Campus. Additionally, we are in the planning stages for an Athletics Banquet in December, and the exact date is yet to be determined. We are early in the planning stages for both of these (although the planning process will accelerate quickly), but look for finalized dates in my Courier after Thanksgiving Break. As always feel free to reach out if you have questions. Enjoy the rest of your week and we hope that you have a safe, restful break!

Kind regards,

Mark
