Letter from the MC Principal

Hello MC families,

I hope that you’ve had a great week. This week students completed their MAP testing. Additionally, students are working on summative assessments in several classes as we wrap up the semester. Assessments can be a source of stress for students, so please check in with your student to see how they are doing.

The winter dance for the Middle Campus will take place tonight Friday, December 8th, from 7:00-9:00 pm at the Middle Campus in the gym. Please note this is a Middle Campus event and is only for ANCS middle school students. Students from other schools including the Elementary Campus are not allowed to attend. Students are welcome to “come as they are” or “dress to impress” but must adhere to school-appropriate attire. Note that after the dance, students must be picked up or walked home by an adult on Essie Avenue for safety reasons.

As a reminder, on Friday, 12/15, dismissal is at 12:00 pm at the middle campus. AfterCare will not be operating at either campus so be sure to make your arrangements now for picking up your student next Friday. If your student needs a sack lunch as they go home that day you can have them sign up for one with their Advisor.

There are several other things coming up at the Middle Campus in the month of December, so take a look at the headings below for information about some of those upcoming items. Have a great week and if you have any questions feel free to reach out.

Kind regards,

Mark

Toy Drive (Reminder)

8th grader Emilia Foster is organizing a toy drive (flier here) for the Atlanta Children’s Shelter. This shelter serves unhoused children and teens, however during the holiday season their toy drives often lack donations for teens and older children. Items like sports equipment, earrings/necklaces/bracelets, hats, and art supplies often suit this audience so please participate in this drive. There will be boxes placed by the entrance at the Middle Campus and we are accepting donations through Friday, December 8th. Obviously that’s today, but if you still have gifts send them in with your student and we can find a way to get them to the Atlanta Children’s Shelter.

Spelling Bee (Reminder)

ANCS students in grades 4-8 are eligible to participate in the Scripps National Spelling Bee. We will hold our bee on Tuesday, December 12 at 3:30 pm in the MC Library. Please reach out to our media specialist, Terri Linnehan with any questions. Please complete this participation form if your student is planning to participate. Copies of the word list are available for pick up in the media center of each campus. This is a great way for our campuses to come together to learn, practice public speaking, and engage.

Fall Sports Athletics Banquet (Reminder)

There will be a banquet for participants in our fall sports (cheer, cross country, flag football, ultimate frisbee, and volleyball) on Tuesday, December 12th at 6:30pm in the gym. Look for more information via email from our Athletic Director Coach D.
