Letter from the MC Principal

Hello MC families,

As we navigate this stretch of cold weather please encourage your students to dress appropriately for the cold. We are still seeing students showing up to school in shorts or without coats so please encourage your students to prepare for the weather.

By the way, last week when we had to shelter in place as we dealt with the tornado warning our students did a fantastic job. We drill these various situations and take the drills seriously in order to prepare for actual situations. Severe weather situations are one of the most likely situations for students to encounter, the students were prepared, and they did great last week. Hats off to our kids.

Today 6th and 7th grade Advisories are doing service in various different ways during their extended Advisory. Students are working with organizations like Books for Africa and volunteering at Brownwood Park. I look forward to hearing about their experiences when they return.

Read4Respect is a program that we’ve participated in in the past, but we have not done this since before the pandemic. Read4Respect involves students from the Elementary Campus (4th graders) visiting the MC, reading a book with MC students during Advisory (6th and 7th grade Advisories only; 8th graders are using this time to focus on Community Project), and doing some activities related to respect and anti-bullying. This week 6th and 7th grade students began their preparations for Read4Respect – check in with your students on how their preparations are going.

FYI MAP scores have been uploaded to ManageBac so you can login and see those now. Login to ManageBac (https://atlncs.managebac.com/login), click on “Portfolio” and you will see the pdf link for your student’s winter MAP report.

Our next MYP Info Session will be focused on reading end of semester reports, so if you would like some dedicated time to review your student’s report and understand its contents, please attend the info session. A morning session will be offered on Wednesday, January 24th, from 7:00-8:00pm, and an evening session on Thursday, January 25th, from 9:00-10:00am. We will cover: how to access the reports in ManageBac; where to find information on them; and what to look for in the second semester. Please use this link to register in order to receive the calendar invite with the Zoom information.

As always if you have any questions feel free to reach out.

Kind regards,

Mark
