Community in Action: ANCS Families Need Our Support
Dear School Family,
As the government shutdown languishes with no end in sight, millions continue to struggle and many more will be impacted by this impasse. There are families at ANCS who are directly impacted by the looming end of SNAP benefits set to go into effect this weekend, as well as those already impacted by the furloughs of government employees.
To those of you who are directly impacted, please know that we have resources available to you. We will not let any child or member of our community go hungry. If you need support, please reach out to our counselors (EC: Leslie Jo Tottenham ltottenham@atlncs.org, MC: Kristin Lee klee@atlncs.org) and/or our Director of School Services & Community Outreach (Natasha Woody-Wideman: nwoody-wideman@atlncs.org). They can provide grocery gift cards and connect you with additional resources. You’ll also find a list of community resources here, which we’ll continue to update as more become available.
For those with the means to help, please join us in supporting other ANCS families during these challenging times.
1. Gift Cards: Drop off Kroger or Publix gift cards for ANCS families in need at the main offices of the EC and MC. Any amount is great, just please note this on the card. We will distribute these to families within our ANCS community.
2. Food Donations: Drop off non-perishable foods in the lobbies of both campuses. We will have bins at both campuses and donate this food to the APS Food Hub, which will be available to all families in the district.
Upon return from the November break, we will also hold our Holiday Meal Drive and our Holiday Helpers programs, which you will learn more about shortly.
As I type this, I am reminded of the prolific words of Coretta Scott King that “the greatness of a community is most accurately measured by the compassionate actions of its members.” Please join me in putting these words into action during this season of giving, by helping support those in our community who are directly impacted. We will dedicate as many resources as we possibly can to support those in need, but we also need your help.
In partnership,
Alastair
