As a charter school, ANCS is not eligible to participate APS school bus service, therefore parents are responsible for arranging their students transportation to and from school. Many families participate in carpools, while many students walk, bike, or take public transportation to school. If you need assistance in making arrangements for your student’s transportation, please contact Kelly Dennis (elementary campus) or Maria Larson (middle campus).
Arrival/Dismissal/Parking Information for the Elementary Campus
Morning Arrival
Students may arrive at school at the elementary campus no earlier than 7:30 am. The school is not responsible for students who are dropped off before 7:30 am. All students enter the building through the main entrance on Grant Street. A school staff member will be at the main entrance to greet the students. Students may not enter through doors in the back, or side of the school (i.e., the Cafeteria doors or the double door that faces Pavilion Street).
The car drop-off line forms on Grant Street from the front entrance of the school south. Please ONLY allow students to exit the car in the drop-off line at the curb on the right side of Grant Street adjacent to the building – never allow them to exit from the car on the left side into traffic. Please only enter the car drop-off line from Bass Street or other streets further south on Grant Street – trying to enter the drop-off line from Pavilion Street causes confusion and unsafe conditions.
Afternoon Dismissal Expectations
Dismissal will be handled in an orderly fashion with children waiting quietly for dismissal. Parents coming into the building to greet “walkers” are asked to wait in the front foyer entrance area until an intercom announcement is made from the office stating, “it is 2:55, time for dismissal”. At that time, parents may go to their child’s classroom and wait at the door for the teacher to dismiss “walkers”. Dismissal is to be an orderly process and parents are asked to keep younger siblings of children with them at all times and to adhere to the same orderly expectations we expect of our students. Parents are also reminded that dismissal time is not a time to conference with a teacher. Teachers are very happy to conference with parents, but such meetings should be scheduled to assure confidentiality and as not to disrupt supervision of children by the classroom teacher.
Students who struggle with adhering to dismissal procedures will be cautioned regarding their behavior. If the behavior continues the student will not be permitted to participate in planned activities and/or the after school program. In such cases, parents will be called to pick up the child. Similarly, parents who prove disruptive to the dismissal process will be asked to wait for their child outside of the building. If your child is a “car rider”, please STAY IN YOUR CAR in the pick-up line in front of the school. Please honor our No Idling policy and do not leave your car in line to come into the building.
Dismissal Locations
Dismissal will occur from multiple locations within the school building.
- Walkers will be met at their classroom door.
- Car riders will be sent to cars from the Media Center when called.
- Van riders will leave their classrooms for the Pavilion entrance when called.

Car Rider Numbers
If a parent/guardian plans to pick up a child by car at any time during the school year, a school car rider number must be obtained. This number must be displayed in your car window each time you pick up your child. If another authorized person picks up your child please make sure that they display the same number in their car window. This number system will expedite the dismissal of your child each afternoon. If a person does not secure a number or display a number they will be required to park and come into the school office so that we can verify with parents who was to pick up a child. No child will be dismissed to a stranger or unauthorized individual.
***** Parents / guardians must notify the school office in writing or by telephone no later than 11:00 AM if dismissal arrangements are to be changed. ******
Arrival/Dismissal/Parking Information for the Middle Campus

The school is not responsible for students who are dropped off before 8:00 a.m. Students should enter the building through the main entrance on Essie Avenue by the gym. Students who do not walk or ride their bikes to school should be picked up at dismissal time each day. Please notify the office if you anticipate being late for pick up.
Students who wish to ride their bikes may do so. Bikes may be locked at one of the bike racks at the school. All students must have on a helmet when biking in compliance with the school’s helmet use policy.
Afternoon Dismissal
At the end of the school day, students will be dismissed according to the information parents/guardians provide.
Walkers and bike riders. At the end of the school day, students will be dismissed according to the information parents/guardians provide. Students who walk or bike from school will be dismissed first. If your student is a walker and you pick them up by car, please park your car away from the car-pool line and do not idle.
Car riders. Students who do not walk or ride their bikes to school should be picked up at dismissal time each day. Please notify the office if you anticipate being late for pick up. Following the dismissal of walkers and bike riders, car riders will be dismissed via walkie-talkie by a school staff member. The car riders’ line is on the right-hand side of Essie Avenue in front of the school. All cars picking up students must have a dismissal number in the right front window. You will receive a number at orientation or you may get one from the middle campus main office. ANCS has a no idling policy. Please do not let your car idle while waiting in line.
Please do not pull into the parking lot to wait for your student to exit the building during dismissal. Also if you need to come into the building during dismissal time, please park in the parking lot or on the left hand side of Essie Avenue to allow the carpool line to move smoothly and out of respect for our neighbors. Otherwise, please remain in your vehicle for your student to be dismissed, and please leave openings for our neighbors’ cars to pull in and out of driveways during dismissal.
If you need to park and come into the middle campus building, please heed the following:
- Please DO NOT park in the faculty/staff lot at the front of the school in the mornings. We have reached capacity in the lot and want to reserve all the spaces for our staff and faculty.
- Please DO NOT park on the right-hand side of Essie Avenue in the afternoons. This will slow down our carpool line.
- Please observe all street parking rules. Do not park in a crosswalk or blocking any driveway. Do not park blocking a fire hydrant!
***** Parents/guardians must notify the school office in writing or by telephone no later than 11:00 AM if dismissal arrangements are to be changed. ******
