Research Study Opportunity at Emory University for Children and Teens
Emory University is recruiting children and teens without developmental conditions (i.e. autism and/or ADHD) for a brain imaging study to help us learn more about how the brain functions, especially when processing social information. The study will take place over 2-3 study visits, each lasting between 1-2.5 hours, that take place at the Marcus Autism Center and Emory University Imaging Center.
What does participation look like?
- Developmental and Cognitive Assessments: Participants complete brain games at the Marcus Autism Center and caregivers will complete parent surveys that include questions related to development.
- Mock MRI Training (optional for kids over 12 years): Participants will practice a simulated MRI experience to prepare for the real MRI while watching movie clips.
- MRI Scan Visit: Participants will complete MRI brain imaging while watching movie clips at Emory University.
What do participants receive for joining the study?
- Compensation:
- $50 for Developmental and Cognitive Assessment Visit
- $15 for Mock MRI Training
- $50 for MRI Scan Visit
- A souvenir picture of their brain from the MRI scan
The information we learn from individuals without developmental conditions will help us to understand more about the characteristics associated with 3q29 syndromes, which are rare genetic disorders that are associated with an increased risk for developmental conditions. To be considered for the study, participants without developmental conditions will be demographically matched in age, gender, race, and ethnicity to earlier 3q29 participants.
