Yuqi Chen
4th Grade Teacher
Yuqi graduated with the highest honors in elementary education, with ESOL and urban education endorsements from Georgia State University. She also received the “Outstanding Undergraduate in Elementary and Early Childhood Education Award” from Georgia State University.
Her philosophy of education is that all children are capable of learning and deserve a safe space to be treated equally. She wants to make a positive impact on the future of children. She wants students to know that they have people who really believe in them. She hopes to create a supportive learning environment for the children in her classroom, where teamwork and empathy are rewarded just as enthusiastically as a good test score. Through love and understanding, she strives to help students achieve their highest potential.
Yuqi joined the ANCS family in 2022. Before teaching at ANCS, Yuqi worked as a senior supplemental instructor at Georgia State University to support college students to develop effective study strategies and stay motivated to complete math courses such as College Algebra. She also worked as a research assistant for IDEAL to support college students with disabilities to understand and complete college-level courses. She is also a CREATE resident alumnus, which has allowed her to advance skills related to self-reflection, communication, collaboration, adaptability, empathy, and patience.
Yuqi loves volunteering. She believes that the more she contributes, the more insights she attains. Seeing how children were impacted by COVID-19, she worked with a non-profit organization and founded a free one-on-one online tutoring program to support elementary students in Georgia. She is now continually volunteering as the tutoring program coordinator to recruit and train volunteers from Emory University and the Georgia Institute of Technology. Her volunteer efforts include a wide range of areas, such as COVID-19 medical supplies distribution, Asian Art demonstrations, disaster relief, environmental protection, fundraising, international cultural festivals, homeless projects, and senior center outreach. She also loves traveling, painting, calligraphy, gardening, baking, and cooking.
