EC Assistant Principal Letter
Hello, school family, and welcome to the 2024-2025 school year!!! My name is Nicole King and I currently serve as the Assistant Principal of the Elementary Campus. My family is the center of my world, the beach is my happy place, and my Trinidadian and Guyanese cultures are at the core of who I am. Lastly, I enjoy and cannot live without…the art of dance.
This is my 7th year as an Assistant Principal, 19th year in education, 10th year at ANCS, and I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else. I began my teaching career right here at Neighborhood Charter School in 2006 as a 1st grade teacher for 3 years and re-joined the ANCS family in 2017 as a 1st grade teacher for 1 year before becoming the Assistant Principal. During my time away from ANCS, I gained experience as a Kindergarten Teacher at Trinity School in Atlanta, Georgia for 5 years (2012-2017), and as a Kindergarten Teacher at Billingsville Elementary School in Charlotte, North Carolina for 3 years (2009-2012).
I received my Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Elementary Education Certification from Agnes Scott College and a Masters of Education in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Massachusetts Lowell. While studying at Agnes Scott College, the professors in the education department taught us about Constructivism and really helped to shape my educational philosophy. However, they would often add a side note to any discussion reminding us that, ‘this approach is really great for children, but you probably won’t find a school that is completely devoted to this practice.’ With this in mind, I completed my student teaching at Winona Park Elementary in Decatur, Ga, and after sharing my vision for the perfect school to begin my teaching career, the principal at the time recommended that I apply to the Neighborhood Charter School. I did my research, applied and was offered the opportunity to teach 1st grade and couldn’t wait to tell my professors and fellow Agnes Scott schoolmates that I in fact did find a school that had Constructivism at its core, a utopia at the time.
I made the decision to leave ANCS after my first 3 years of teaching in order to join the love of my life in Charlotte, NC. I didn’t know where my teaching career would go from there, but I always remained open to learning and growing in order to continue to be the best educator I could be for my students. While in Charlotte, I got married and we moved back to Atlanta a few months before I gave birth to our oldest daughter. I never stopped thinking about ANCS and often pulled up the website, hoping to one day get back to this place that was like no other school I was a part of. Now that I am here, my goal is to remain at ANCS as long as the school family will have me. Decisions are student focused, faculty and staff are passionate, intelligent and committed to creating learning experiences that our students will never forget, families are supportive and advocates for our work and our board members work hard to uphold the pillars that make our school special and unique.
As we begin another school year together, I look forward to supporting you, the students, and the faculty and staff. Go wolves!
