Letter from the EC Principal

Dear ANCS Elementary Families,

I hope you are enjoying your week so far. We are fully engaged in our celebration of Black History Month in many ways throughout the school. Students are enjoying Black History Trivia in morning meeting. Additionally, we discussed why we celebrate all the ways we are a diverse community and on Monday we discussed the difference between equity and all things being equal.

When you walk into the school, you will see an amazing display of Black Inventors. This was created by Dana Copeland, Jaquoia Rockmore, Tawanda Morgan, Toni Morales, Mahogany Williams. Then, classrooms and offices across the school are decorating their doors in order to teach others about people and/or events in Black History. The doors are geared to teach about this year’s national theme “African Americans and Labor,” which aims to focus on the significant, various, and profound contributions of Black workers throughout history. Students are very proud of the work they have done. At the end of the month, classes take tours of the doors, which provides everyone with the opportunity to learn from each other. It’s a beautiful thing!

Finally, please plan on coming to our Black History Month program the evening of March 5. Students and teachers are working hard at making this an evening to remember!

Next week we will be on mid-winter break and then the following week our spring conferences begin. You should have received communication from your child’s teachers about signing up for a conference time. It is important that you plan for a time to meet with your child’s teachers to review your child’s progress at this point in the year. The two conferences per year are part of our reporting system and work in tandem with the progress report and report card to keep you informed about your child’s academic and social/emotional progress at school. If you can’t find a time that works with your schedule, reach out to the teachers and they will work with you to find a time to better suit you. Additionally, if you need to cancel your conference, please give ample notice to the teachers so they have time to reschedule.

As always, I am happy to answer any questions you may have. Have a wonderful remainder of your week!

Wishing you well,
Lara
