8th Grade Scoliosis and Vision Screenings
Hello 8th Grade Families-
We will be conducting scoliosis and vision screenings for 8th grade students in the coming weeks. Scoliosis and vision screenings are required for all students in the 8th grade who attend public school in Georgia.
Scoliosis is a sideways curve of the spine. Early detection is important to avoid potentially serious complications later in life. The screening test is an observation of the child’s back when standing and bending forward. For more information, click here.
Vision screenings are quick and simple test that helps identify potential vision problems in children, such as nearsightedness, farsightedness, and other visual impairments. Early detection of these issues is important, as untreated vision problems can impact a child’s learning and development. Studies show that approximately 1 in 4 school-aged children have vision problems that, if left unaddressed, can affect academic performance and quality of life.
You can choose to not have your child screened for scoliosis or vision. Please see the email that Nurse Leslye sent Monday afternoon to all 8th grade families with opt out forms attached.
If you have further questions or concerns, please contact Nurse Leslye at lryan@atlncs.org.
