Letter from the MC Librarian

Hello, everyone! I am Terri Linahan, the Middle Campus librarian. This will be my 13th year at ANCS. While becoming a librarian was a childhood dream (in addition to being a gift-wrapper at Belk), it was not a direct path. I obtained my BA in Sociology at Valdosta State University with a minor in Anthropology. After several years in the foodservice industry, I ended up working for a couple of technology firms, but never felt I was in the right place. During this time, my dad died at the age of 57. This unexpected event inspired me to find more meaningful work, so I went back to school and earned my Master of Education in Library Media at Georgia State University.

Working at ANCS over the past decade has brought me more joy than I ever thought possible at a job. Not only am I immersed in books, reading and literature, but the personal connections I have made with students and families over the years are something I would have never found in the corporate sector. Instead of profit margins and the fluorescent glare of cubicles, I am fortunate to spend my time doing things like procuring books that reflect our students’ lives and interests, or the latest and greatest best-sellers. Another perk to serving our maturing minds is having critical discussions on “The Classics” and how certain parts may look through a modern lens. Extracurricular events like the Reading Bowl and the Spelling Bee bring a sense of community to our scholars and celebrate the love of stories and words. And most importantly, I learn something new every day from our kids. It may be an eye-opening exchange around our age or cultural differences, or more likely, a reminder that I am no longer fire, nor do I slay.

As parents/guardians, please reach out to me at any time if you have questions or concerns regarding reading or technology with your student – or even with yourself!

Here to serve,

Mx. Linahan (she/her)
