Soccer Teams Triumph in APS Playoffs

This week saw thrilling action from both our girls’ and boys’ soccer teams in the APS playoffs. On Tuesday, the girls clinched a spot in the championship game after triumphing over Howard and Atlanta Heights in a round-robin style playoff. Following the girls’ game, the boys secured an exhilarating victory against Howard, winning through penalty kicks. The following day, both teams faced Sutton in the championship showdown. Despite a valiant effort, the girls suffered a heartbreaking 1-0 defeat. The boys were leading until Sutton scored a goal with only 45 seconds remaining, pushing the game into an intense shootout. Thanks to remarkable saves by APS Middle School Boys MVP and 6th grader Van Coss, and precise penalty kicks by our wolves, the boys emerged victorious, claiming the championship title! We take immense pride in our middle school, comprising 234 students, competing at the same level as schools with much larger student bodies – Sutton (1,555 students) and Howard (1,056 students). Congratulations to both teams for an outstanding season. A special thank you and congratulations to coaches Colin Gatewood (APS Middle School Boys Soccer Coach of the Year), Rick Caldwell, Russell Wright, Jeff Mahoney, and Lee Kynes for their exceptional guidance and support!
